Hairdressing Training Package transition roadmap

JULY 2026

To assist our customers with planning, we have developed a transition roadmap outlining our current approach to the Hairdressing Training Package update.

Development of our learning materials has already commenced against Draft 1 of the Training Package. Following endorsement, we plan to progressively release updated learning materials and assessments, along with qualification mapping documents and gap analysis reports to assist RTOs with their implementation planning.

Provide fundamental basin services
Identify hair and scalp conditions

RELEASE 2

Block 2 learning materials and assessments released:
Hair Styling Cluster:
- Finish styling services
- Finish styling services using thermal tools

RELEASE 3

Block 3 learning materials and assessments released:
Hair Colour Cluster:
- Explore colour and chemical science for salon work
- Design colour and chemical service plans
- Apply fundamental colouring and lightening techniques
- Apply fundamental chemical techniques to change hair structure
- Apply complex colouring methods

RELEASE 4

Final learning materials and assessments released:
Hair Cutting Cluster:
- Design haircut styles
- Cut hair using fundamental techniques (one length/solid form, layered)
- Cut hair using fundamental techniques (graduated and layered)
- Cut and finish hair using combined techniques
Transition support completed
